This is Igbo Oji Igbo or Igbo Kola, usually in 4 parts or more. The more parts in a Kola, the different in meaning and significance of the occasion. In Igbo culture, the kola nut is a crucial part of many ceremonies, gatherings, and welcoming of visitors to one’s home. As a mark of respect, the kola nut is broken with a knife and then followed immediately by goodwill prayers.
Bitter nuts: Diabetes control fruit, presented as kola nut. It’s also an anti-poison and used for many medicinal purposes.
The core of Igbo food is its soups. The popular soups are Ofe Oha or Akwukwo Ofe, Ofe Ose (made with dried Okra/Okwuru), Onugbu, ofe akwụ, Egwusi and Nsala (White pepper soup), Ofe Okra/Okwuru, Ofe Akwukwo (vegetable soup made with Igbo green vegetables, Water leaves, Ukazi, Ukpa leaves which is in the family of Oha/Akwuko Ofe, etc.) Yam is a staple food for the Igbos and is eaten boiled or pounded with soups. Other swallows that goes with the soups includes – Garri, Ede, plantain fufu, Semo, pounded Rice, etc.
